6 Free Tuition Waivers for Ukrainian Students

Since the Russian-Ukrainian war, universities around the world have been offering scholarships, grants and fellowships to displaced Ukrainian students.

Many have have fled Ukraine to find solace in neighboring countries while those continuing their education are forced to take online courses or have their education interrupted due to war.

Many universities have shown solidarity and support for Ukrainian citizens. As applications open for the 2022-2023 academic year, various universities are offering full or partial tuition waivers to incoming Ukrainian students who wish to continue their studies or enroll in a program.

Universities waive tuition fees for Ukrainians

University of Aberdeen

The University of Aberdeen will waive tuition fees of up to £250,000 for new and returning Ukrainian students, as well as housing assistance for this year and next year.

To qualify for the tuition waiver, students:

  • Need to be self-funded for their on-campus program
  • Was a resident of Ukraine before the Russian invasion or is a Ukrainian national
  • Ukrainian residents, Ukrainian citizens and Belarusian and Russian refugees and asylum seekers do not need to apply and will automatically benefit from the tuition fee waiver

Those studying UG Medicine or MBA programs or under Scottish Government funding agreements will not be eligible for university tuition waivers.

Students without essential documents such as a transcript of their qualifications will also be considered. They should contact [email protected].

The university is offering financial support of up to £50,000 to war-affected students. New students starting their studies in 2022-23 will receive £1,000 in cash scholarships, which will be awarded automatically.

SMK University of Applied Social Sciences

SMK University of Applied Social Sciences (SMK) in Lithuania accepts and grants 100 Ukrainian students full tuition fee waiver. Tuition fees apply to SMK’s professional bachelor’s degree programs that are offered in English: International Business and Marketing and Creative Advertising.

To qualify, Ukrainian students must:

  • Ability to study in English
  • Fill out an application form
  • Sit down for an interview with the college admissions committee

Kazimieras Simonavicius University

Kazimieras Simonavičius University (KSU) is offering full tuition waiver to 100 Ukrainian students displaced by war who can no longer continue their studies in their home country.

Students benefiting from the tuition waiver will be admitted to KSU study programs currently offered in English: Aviation Management (Bachelor), Entrepreneurship and Management (Bachelor) and European Union Law (Master).

Ukrainian students applying to the university must:

  • Ability to study in English
  • Sit down for an interview with the college admissions committee
  • Fill out an application form

Hampton University

Hampton University in the United States has announced that it will provide free housing, board and tuition to 50 to 100 Ukrainian students and those displaced by war for the six-week summer session.

After the summer session is over, Ukrainian students can continue to study at the university at regular tuition rates.

“Hampton University faculty, staff and students are heartbroken as a war-torn Ukraine faces atrocities such as the bombing of maternity wards, hospitals and hospitals. ‘other civilian areas,’ Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey said.

“I think this partnership can be beneficial for a large number of students and families. My entire career has been focused on helping people reach and achieve their goals.

University of Alberta

The University of Alberta (U of A) is offering partial or full tuition waivers to new Ukrainian undergraduate and postgraduate students applying for their Fall 2022 semester. Eligibility will be based on the financial situation of students.

In addition to tuition waivers, the university also waives application and residence fees. It also funds the living expenses of Ukrainian students.

To be admitted to the university, students must meet the English language requirements. Some of the university’s programs are still accepting applications.

Tallinn University of Technology

Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) in Estonia has established a scholarship fund to waive tuition fees for incoming Ukrainian students for the 2022-23 academic year.

To be eligible, students must have Ukrainian citizenship and have obtained temporary protection from the Estonian police and border guard board. Once enrolled in the desired program, they must obtain 30 ECTS credit points for the courses taken or pay a sum for each short credit point.

The university also waives the application fee.
