Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: NFL rookies deserve to be added
Four other teams are goodbye in Week 10 – the Bears, Bengals, Giants and Texans – leaving fantasy managers with new issues to tackle.
Below you’ll find a few priority pickups, all available in over 50% of leagues and approved for immediate use.
Quarterbacks on the wire
Teddy Bridgewater, Denver Broncos (26% enrolled)
All Bridgewater Teddy Bear Sunday was a pass for 249 yards and a score while rushing for a second TD, securing a convincing road victory over Dallas, a team that came into the week at 6-1. His touchdown pass was a well-thrown deep touchdown for Tim patrick, victimize Trevon Diggs.
We don’t think of Bridgewater as some kind of mad bomber, but his planned 8.7 yards per target ranks among the leaders in the league.
Denver has defied predictions at this point in the season, so maybe we shouldn’t even be discussing the showdowns with this team. But the Eagles are next, and, well …
Bridgewater has a good chance of securing a second straight top 10 position. He’s the guy who gets to throw in. Courtland sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Patrick and his friends, which gives him a chance to hit multiple TDs each week.
Recommended waiver offer (assuming a budget of $ 100): $ 7
Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers (18%)
Jimmy garoppolo didn’t have a bad game Sunday for fantastic ends (326-2-1), but his team couldn’t keep pace with a varsity junior version of the Cardinals’ offense, led by Colt McCoy. The Niners are down to 3-5 and the split is basically a lost cause. At some point, the team may decide to take a long look at the double-threat quarterback they picked third in the overall draft (after giving out several firsts and a third to acquire the pick).
We haven’t actually seen Trey Lance in the field since week 5, which is a bit wild. He is, without a doubt, the future quarterback of the team. This current edition of the Niners is technically just a threat to the playoffs and certainly not on a Super Bowl trajectory. Lance, at one point, needs to play. San Francisco will face the Rams on Monday night in Week 10 before the schedule takes an extremely friendly turn …
Obviously not all starts will be an instructional video with Lance, but he will have a fantastic receiving corps at his disposal and he is a talented and willed runner. Lance carried 16 times for 89 yards against Arizona in October. When he starts, you’ll want him.
Offer: $ 6
Other QBs of interest: Ben roethlisberger (if you just don’t have anywhere to turn, please note that he will face the Lions in week 10), Taysom Hill (he’s clearly just a long-term driver, just in case Trevor Siemian cannot occupy the position; Hill completed his two passing attempts on his comeback against Atlanta).
Back to prioritize
Rhamondre Stevenson, New England Patriots (6%)
You know it’s a slow week on the wire when we highlight a guy who just left a game with a head injury. It is clearly too early to know Rhamondre Stevensonfor week 10, but we can definitely say he played a big part in the game plan against Carolina on Sunday. Before checking out, Stevenson gained 106 total yards on a dozen touches, leading the team in both running and receiving (which, admittedly, doesn’t say much).
Also, one of our guiding principles here is that if you hit a guy with a stiff arm like that …
… we have to promote you. It’s just too good.
Stevenson was a pre-season star for New England, you might remember, but his game day status has been a mystery until every week of the regular season. After Sunday’s performance he really needs to stay involved when he’s in good health. Hoping he’s ready to face Cleveland next week (followed by Atlanta and Tennessee).
Offer: $ 8
Devonta Freeman, Baltimore Ravens (20%)
Somehow, in the pickup frenzy that surrounded the Eagles and Titans running backs last week, we all forgot. Devonta Freeman. It’s understandable in a way, because he’s a boring vet coming out of a goodbye. However, Freeman had scored in consecutive games and he scored three times in a row with a spike in Sunday’s victory over the Vikings. He caught a short touchdown in the second quarter and gained 83 scrimmage yards on 15 touches.
Freeman split door with Le’Veon Bell, as expected, and, of course, Lamar jackson led the team in the race. Still, Devonta has carved out a significant role for a team committed to the race. Baltimore has two friendly clashes on the bridge (at Mia, at Chi), so Freeman belongs in the flex discussion.
Offer: $ 8
Various other RBs worth adding: Jordan howard (I didn’t have the guts to give a full blurb to another Eagles comeback, but Howard had the biggest day of Week 9, rushing for 71 yards and a score), Alex collins (it’s available in just over 50% of Yahoo leagues and we’re not sure yet if Chris Carson will come back for week 10), Brandon bolden (he produced 81 yards of scrimmage on Sunday and Stevenson and Damien Harris both checked with possible concussions), Eno Benjamin (he could be a viable deep league driver if Chase edmonds is sidelined by the ankle problem that affected him on Sunday), Sony Michel (he scored the worst touchdown of the week and it should be noted that Darrell Henderson suffered a seemingly minor ankle injury), Jeff Wilson Jr. (he didn’t make an appearance in Sunday’s loss, although he was active before his initial return schedule; we know the coaching staff love him, so he’ll see the pitch soon), Jaret patterson (bye, he played a big part in week 8 with Antonio Gibson still struggling with an injury).
Wide receivers and tight ends deserve attention
Rashod Bateman, Baltimore Ravens (36% enrolled)
Yeah, we re-hyping it, because Rashod bateman has not yet been sufficiently added. He’s seen no less than six targets in a game since his regular season debut in Week 6. Bateman caught five balls for 52 yards on eight chances against Minnesota on Sunday, with a few highlights included …
The rookie will face Miami next week, a team that placed second-to-last against the inbound on Sunday. Bateman is pretty much a perfect addition to Marquise Brown and the initial feedback has certainly been encouraging. The escape game is coming soon.
Offer: $ 10
Elijah Moore, New York Jets (27%)
We’re not generally used to recommending elements of the Jets’ passing game, but Elie Moore broke out with WR1 numbers Thursday night against the Colts. He caught touchdown passes from both Mike White and Josh johnson en route to an effort of 7 catches, 84 yards and 2 TD.
Moore has also seen 20 targets in his last three games, so it’s not like the big performance came without warning. He’s just terribly smooth, a great splitter that feasted on at the college level for Ole Miss (86-1193-8 in 2020). Again, his current environment may not be ideal, but, at 6-8 targets per game, he can help.
Offer: $ 8
Additional WRs to consider: Donovan Peoples-Jones (he’s next in line for the 3-5 targets per match that would have otherwise gone to OBJ and he made a long home visit against the Bengals on Sunday), Tim patrick (he delivered another 85 yards with a long touchdown, not that you care; he apparently won’t escape eligibility for this column), Russell gage (rebounded from a misfire with an effort at 8 targets, 7 catches and 64 yards), Deonte Harris (15 targets over two matches put him on the radar, especially with Michel thomas impossible to return), Van Jefferson Jr. (he hardly ever leaves the field and he has seen 20 targets in his last three games), Marquez Valdes-Scantling (obviously the Jordan Love the experience was, uh … not great, but at least MVS is healthy and back in the mix).
TE worthy of attention: Tyler conklin (he’s shot 19 targets in his last three games, hitching 13), Dan Arnold (the team’s offense may be a wasteland, but Arnold caught a dozen balls for 128 yards in his last two games), Pat Freiermuth (an extremely promising talent who caught 11 balls on 14 targets in his last two, entering Monday night).
Defenses to target
Tennessee Titans (10%)
It sounds like an eternity, but this defense opened the season allowing over 30 points in back-to-back games against Arizona and Seattle. Somehow, over the past five weeks – against some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL – the D Titans have scored fantastic double-digit points four times. Jeffery Simmons and Denico Autry were simply wreckers on Sunday night against the Rams, which is really nothing new to these guys. Over the next three weeks, Tennessee will face New Orleans, Houston and New England, so we can assume that this defense has a few bags and takeaways coming up.
