Farmers union to meet with Punjab CM today to demand waiver of agricultural loans
Committee chief Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh, SS Pandher, said on Tuesday that he would meet today with Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi, to discuss the various outstanding demands from farmers, including the complete waiver of agricultural loans as “promised in congressional election manifesto”.
Speaking to ANI, Pandher said, “We have come here to meet with Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi. Our various demands are pending, including debt cancellation of farmers and workers, prices of the sugar cane. 36,000 jobs for young people in Punjab are still pending. There are various pending demands with which we have come today. ”
Speaking about farm loans and the farmers ‘waiver request, the farmers’ chief said the case had partially gone ahead, but they demanded the full waiver of farm loans.
“Rs 2 lakh had to be canceled for farmers with land up to 5 acres. We demand the waiver of all loans that Congress promised in their manifesto,” he said.
Asked about the continued “roko rail” unrest in Punjab which hit its seventh day on Sunday, he said if the government responds to their request it will stop the agitation.
“We said at the outset that the government was putting farmers in difficulty. Travelers also face the problem. If the government of Punjab had accepted all of our demands, this would not have happened. If the government accepts our demands today, we will. withdraw the unrest today, ”he said.
