Waiver of Rs 24 lakh for 698 electricity consumers: The Tribune India

Pending electricity bills worth Rs24 lakh received by consumers were canceled on the first day of the Suvidha camps launched in accordance with the policy recently announced by the state government.

The district had 37,000 domestic electrical connections with a capacity of 2 KW. The PSPCL will ensure that all eligible people benefit from this benefit. Interestingly, Cabinet Minister Rana Gurjit Singh himself skipped the inauguration event in Kapurthala. Instead, a camp was started by his wife Rajbans Kaur Rana, a former MP. Meanwhile, in Sultanpur Lodhi, MP Navtej Singh Cheema inaugurated Suvidha camp to waive pending electricity bills from consumers.

In the district of Kapurthala, the campaign started with the exemption of the unpaid amount of electricity bills up to 2 KW.

In total, requests from 698 eligible consumers received for waiver of Rs24 lakh electricity bills were approved today in the camps.

Rajbans Kaur Rana inaugurated the Sant Nagar Mohalla camp in Kapurthala to make life easier for people today. She called it a landmark decision by the Punjab government that would bring relief to all economically weaker sections of society.

In Sultanpur Lodhi, Camp Suvidha was started at the local PSPCL office by MPP Navtej Singh Cheema. Requests from 478 consumers received for exemption from electricity bills worth Rs18 lakh have been approved at the camp.

The government of Punjab would reimburse the amount forfeited to the PSPCL to avoid a tax burden on the board, the MP said.

Deputy Chief Engineer (Distribution) Inderpal Singh and Additional SE Kapurthala Darshan Singh said the district has 37,000 household electrical connections with a capacity of 2 KW. The PSPCL would ensure that all eligible people take advantage of this benefit, they added. Connections disconnected due to non-payment of the electric bill would be restored without charging any amount to the consumer, they said. To make life even easier for people, such camps would be organized in the coming days at the sub-division level, they added.
